The amount of weight you gain during pregnancy is important for the optimum health of both you and your baby. According to the CDC, only about one-third (32%) of women gained the recommended amount of weight during pregnancy and most women gained weight outside the recommendations (21% too little, 48% too much). This often arises from the common misconception that when pregnant you have to eat twice the amount of what you usually eat as now you are eating for two. So, for all the pregnant women who are wondering what the accepted weight gain is during a normal, singleton pregnancy, here are the facts!
But with the cravings hitting hard, many women tend to put on weight easily if they are not mindful of their eating habits. Fret not! Here are some tips on how to achieve the optimum weight.
Track your weight gain regularly
Eat a healthy balanced diet
Choose healthy snacks like fruits, carrots, celery sticks with hummus dips and nuts
Avoid excess sugary and salty, processed foods
Exercise regularly for at least 30mins every day
If your weight is still not optimal discuss and work on a personalized diet with your health care provider.
