Lose Weight – The Healthy Way!

As the world still reels in Covid pandemic, let’s not forget the deadlier one – OBESITY!

Prevalence of overweight and obesity among adults in Malaysia increased to 54.2% in 2020 from 50.1% in 2019, according to an MOH study. This has led to a huge increase in non-communicable diseases like heart disease, diabetes, cancers and has emerged as a major health concern. Am sure most of us would love to have an optimal weight… just that we don’t know how!

Here are some tips for losing weight the healthy way.

  1. Follow a healthy plate routine
  2. Just as you are mindful of the diet, be mindful about the timing of your meal. The last meal should be at least 3to 4 hrs before your bed time.
  3. Follow a time restricted feeding schedule like intermittent fasting where you eat only during an 8 hr window, for example 10 am to 6 am
  4. Skip your sugars especially the processed or refined ones when on your weight loss journey until you reach your optimum weight
  5. Follow an exercise routine of at least 30-40 mins every day, which is a combination of cardio as well as resistance training, to replace your fat with muscle
  6. Avoid fad diets. Its more beneficial and healthier to go on a diet which is more inclusive of all the macronutrients -carbs, fat and protein
  7. Lastly practice sleep hygiene. Have at least 6-8 hrs of restful sleep at night as that’s when your body restores and heals itself
